Joan Mael Peneau is not a name many would recognise
immediately but his alias Maelstrom has grounded strong
reputation in various scenes for pushing the boundaries of their
genres.
In 2009 and 2010, Maelstrom gets signed to the infamous french
underground label Expressillon Records, with 3 releases
reviewed by DJ mag, IDJ, Mixmag, Trax, M8, or Raveline, and
followed by no less than 15 remixes for various labels and artists
across the world, from ESL in the USA to Meat Katie’s LOT49
records and Elite Force’s U&A in the UK, taking over the Beatport
Top 50 chart several times.
With such a healthy back catalogue, Maelstrom toured most of
the world in 2009 and 2010, performing before enthusiastic
electro and funk fans in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom,
France, China, Austria, Eastern Europe, Italy, and Switzerland
many times over, as well as at London institution, Fabric.
Mael has quite simply exploded onto the scene in the past three
years, drawing the support of artists across the globe, including
the likes of Laurent Garnier, Crookers, Djedjotronic, Lee
Mortimer, Dj Zinc, Krafty Kuts, Aquasky, A.Skillz, Lady Waks,
Elite Force, Napt and the Plump DJs. You can be sure that you’ll
be hearing a lot more of the name Maelstrom in 2011!
